Uqba and Saima continued pursuing their education despite bereavement, financial hardship and displacement in Balay Shah. Their mother supported the household through sewing, and the children helped with daily responsibilities.

The 2022 floods damaged their home and left the family living in temporary shelter. Nevertheless, the sisters remained committed to school, encouraged by their teachers and their family’s hopes for a different future. Their interests included science and English, with ambitions to enter medicine or teaching.
